The intensity of this film seems intended to make you sick to your stomach. No one nowadays dares to waste so much effort on a love gone sour. No moviemaker, that is. After all, hasn't every perversion of love already been used and misused in an attempt to reflect real life. Well, nothing is real with Godard, nothing exists but the weight of existence. Maybe that's what makes it art - the fact it's not a mere reflection. One thing is sure: There are no movies like this one today. We'll just have to wait for tomorrow.
